azrocket wrote:

Fine, I'll rephrase... Why won't you run a normal, old fashioned DYP when you add $150 to the pot? The last few times that much was added, you use some funky-assed format (such as roto, goalies delight or this multi-partner gimmick).

Ok, I'll explain.

It may come as no surprise that we don't have events with a big added cash prize very often due to the simple reason that someone has to add the cash. It is like pulling teeth to get a bar to add money, and it's like pulling all your teeth at once to get a dedicated sponsor. So when I do these things I have to either just cough up the money myself, or try to make a deal with the bar where they promise to contribute a certain amount of money dependent upon the number of people we bring to the bar, and how long we keep them there. Or some combination of both. A key thing to recognize is that bars will typically will not offer any amount of money without these conditions. The catch-22 is that it is immensely helpful to an event's turnout to announce ahead of time how much money will be added. So whenever you see that happen, usually it is when I have personally placed a significant amount of money at risk, gambling that we reach a certain attendance in the hopes of recouping some of the cost.

As far as the event types go...

With the aforementioned considerations in mind, we generally select an event type that tends to draw the greatest amount of players, or is specifically requested by a cash sponsor, or a compromise of each.
