hi bill, do you have any suggestions to the membership fee, nobody wears the t-shirts-i've been very surprised(i thought they would ) and i don't feel good about paying money into a fund that goes to the same few and not me(prize money) is there a way to make it easier for members with money issues to be involved (i'm still not working and am still finding 40.00 difficult to come by.) maybe a sliding scale of $5 to $65 to join--- hopefully there are plenty of players that will be happy to fork out the $65 to make up for it. if they complain about this then the membership for t-shirts and prize money should be adjusted. nobody wins the prize money or wears the t-shirts. I think winning a trophy is much better than money and it's cheaper for everyone. A trophy is a symbol that one can admire with pride but cash means nothing and if the winning players say they want cash instead of trophies, say sorry no funds available. maybe when you ask about membership entrance fee ---ask aeveryone what they would be comfortable paying. plus instead of giving out cash prizes, Bill you should be giving 15 dollar trophys and keeping the rest for management of this whole thing. I hope people appreaciate what you do for all of us. you should get paid something. so get the $5 from the poor and $65 from the rich (you know who they are)buy engraved trophies for the winners(that they keep, not give back every league to the next winners) and keep the rest for yourself. I'm sure nobody would deny you to help pay the expenses. maybe more subs would jump in if the membership fee was on a sliding scale. when you talk to someone about membership money, work um to how much they can afford to pay. thank you brad

Well Brad, it's not entirely true about no one wearing the league shirts. I wear my league shirt. As for the league fees, hey it's like everything else in this world "YOU HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY!!!" With the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow being the prize money, I feel it makes you want to play harder to win. I can understand that for the new players in the league, it may be a bit harder for them to reach that pot of gold, but it is a great incentive to ask lots of questions, and ask the vetern players for tips, hints, and cheats. I can speak for myself that when any of the new players ask me for help or ask how I learned something I am always showing them whatever I can. Secondly, it comes down to flat out dedication to practicing. The only way to get better at anything in this world is to put in the time, energy, effort, and have the dedication to keep at it when the going gets tough.

Brad - it's cool you have suggestions, etc., and have taken the time to present them. However, I have to answer honestly, and it seems that you may not be aware of some things:
1) You suggest canceling the t-shirts as a means of lowering the entry fee. However, the t-shirts do not come out of the entry fee. I pay for them. 2) You suggest trophies instead of prize money. Maybe. But right now we do give out pendants, and I do not think you can say that most people would rather have a trophy than money. I personally do not care about the money, but I care even less about a trophy. 3) You suggest giving out new engraved trophies, instead of recycling the old ones. First, we don't recycle the old ones; they're always new. Engraving is cool, but it means you have to know the winners early, and it costs more. 4) You suggest that I get paid something. However, in (1) above, you suggest reducing the entry fees. This makes little sense. I don't get "paid" for several reasons. First, I don't give a shit. If I were paid it would be about $300 for 3 months. The success of the league is what's important. In the end, we'll all be happier, and I'll make a little bit from the increased play, etc. 5) You mention that the same people keep winning. That's not really true. The league is handicapped. Ironically, on one hand, you have those that complain that the handicaps are too severe, while on the other you have those saying that the same people keep winning. In truth, the handicaps serve pretty much the purpose they were intended - they keep the matches interesting, and give all players a chance. In my view, I feel that the higher rated players ought to have a slight advantage (it doesn't make sense to me to punish a player for improving), but the handicaps should make it competitive. If you look through the results you will see that's about how it's panned out - and quite often new or "novice" players have done well and even won some categories (including the league championship).
Everything is about compromises - you simply cannot make everyone totally happy. Some players like having more money in the fund. Also, the entry fee serves another purpose; it acts as a deterrent to players "joining the league", and then not showing up half the time. In my view, this is much more damaging, since it screws up the night for everyone, and leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouths.
And I will assume you were kidding when you suggested that we ask people what they think they should pay.
P.S. Btw, there is a "League Talk" forum also.
Thanks anyhow, Brad. Now, just practice that pull shot and just take one of those prizes!
