Hello Everyone
After much calculation, deliberation, and anticipation Bill and I, using a combination of his tournament points, the netfoos tournament points, and league rankings, have come up with the category list for ranking all players that have played in our events before. These will be the categories we will be using for AZ Super Doubles. The list is divided up into 5 sections - Master, Pro, Expert, Amateur, and Beginner. The list below is divided up into these sections and has players listed alphabetically by section. If you have any questions for us or wish to appeal your ranking please contact myself or Bill Nolan and we can discuss it with you further.

Why no love for New Mexico Foos tourney
chambie
|
Hi John - I think that there are several issues. First and foremost the tourney you guys are doing does not have any specific prize structure listed, and also the events are kind of sketchy. There is no specific events for different ratings as well, which may have scared away the low ranked players. Another issue is that we have so much foos here now there needs to be a pretty good incentive to travel to a remote location and play foos. The notice was also pretty short, it is good to usually have tournies scheduled at least two months in advance. Lastly we have our big SuperDoubles event the week after. When we listed the tourney I did not know yours was the weekend prior as I got notice of your event about 5 days after we posted ours.
I personally wanted to come to this event but it did not work out in my schedule. I really appreciate all the support from NM over the years and hope you guys will continue to come to our events. Hopefully you guys can incorporate some of my suggestions in your next event. Best of luck this weekend.

OK Ill bite......The rankings were generated two ways, both using ELO system. The first is about 5 years of data, over 100 tournament results in Netfoos. With that sample size I feel very confident that in that list players are ranked correctly. Billy has also created an ELO based system within his results and generates a different point list. We compared the two point lists and came up with the rankings. If you wish I can bring the two point lists for anyone to see.
The variations on the CA players that are Pro's but not ranked that high is that they played here in a couple of the big events and did not do all that well, however I agree that Art should be adjusted up, particularly based on recent results. The others will stay experts until they come up here and prove otherwise. Johnny has been struggling lately and is ranked appropriately based on his results over the past two years.
The experts you listed are accurate based on results and this is bared out on the two points lists that we generated. Out of the group you mentioned I was the only one, based on the points, that is on the expert/pro border. Cowboy hardly plays anymore and has not won any events in a long time. This will most likely be my last event as a local expert.
The thing that is tough about ranking our players against other players from out of state is the fact that so few of us tour with any regularity. Zeke you are really the only one that tours, as most of us are still just amateurs when looking at Mary's points. Hell she has Eric Bork rated as a beginner, lol.
Zeke, I appreciate your input and your opinion carries a lot of weight as you know and understand the game very well. However when discussing ratings and points Bill and I have agreed to be as objective as possible and use a proven system such as ELO and not a subjective one that rates players based on what we believe they should be based on their apparent skill level. edited by chambie on 1/6/2016 |

Really Zeke, your going to lump yourself, Ben and Ross into the same league as the others on your list? Clearly you are joking or being sarcastic and if so I will laugh along with ya, but if your serious I call "BULLSHIT" edited by SprintCar7 on 1/6/2016
I assume this is Steve ... which i forgot to include in the "LOCAL MASTER" LIST as well based on experience and accomplishments on tour. The key word here being "LOCAL" for local points and ranks, I'm not saying I'm a master on tour or Ben or Ross. The real joke is that a guy like Dozer (Mike Mendoza), who is a rookie on tour, who has no local scene here in Tucson, and who only has been playing for about 4 years, quickly got put in the "expert" rank in the phoenix points list. In that same list you have all the regular phoenix players that have been player for 15+ years and have far more experience and play regularly. So when I see a list like this and it says "Master" but it does not include Nick, Tony Bacon, Don Swan, but TJ and Bryan Hendricks are in the Pro list (correctly by the way), then it's just a local ranking and not a real ranking.
-zeke edited by zekefooser on 1/6/2016
Zeke - What are "real rankings"? That shit Mary posts each year? We all well know that IFP designed its system to attract the maximum amount of players to support the tour? I never believed that it was a true ranking system. Pat Hutson won Am Singles at Vegas last year and is still an Amateur???? I personally have placed in the top 7 in both EX and AM singles and in the top 9 of AM Doubles and have moved up like 5 points, seriously??? With that said I believe that Dozer is ranked appropriately locally, as he is able to complete and has a chance to win in the category that he is in. If he was ranked an Amateur he would be a big favorite and I would have some pissed off, and rightfully so, local Ams. Everyone in all the divisions are our customers and we work very hard to make sure we come up with both fair and appropriate ways to rank people, as my number one goal is customer satisfaction. I want people to continue to come to our events, and have the ability to compete, and compete fairly. We always know that we will never satisfy everyone, that is why we have this board and I invite anyone who wants to discuss the matter to contact me. There is no hidden agenda here we only want to do what is fair and right.
In this event in particular we had to look at the points and decide where the dividing line was. The first and foremost factor in deciding that was the simple fact are any of the people in the division just going to mop up on everyone else, as well as to they have a chance to compete in that division. The difficult part is looking at the people on the border lines between divisions and making sure they are rated appropriately. Did we have to make some judgement calls? Of course we did, but I believe that we did so with the good of Arizona Foosball and this event in particular in mind.
As I stated earlier I really respect your opinion and appreciate your input. I will take it to heart and talk to Bill to see if we need to make any adjustments, but as I stated earlier we want to keep this to a minimum. As far as your Master arguments go it is really a moot point for this event, however if we run some events with a Masters division in the future I actually think what you stated will be very helpful. Out of all the divisions I do believe there is a real difference between the top and bottom of the Expert division and would like to move that dividing line between pro and expert down. However to do so and suddenly move a big group of former experts into a pro category with out winning any major local events, or having the points to support the move, we would most likely have a mutiny on our hands.
It is always easier to fix problems on the outside looking in, however actually having to do it certainly changes your perspective, it has with me. The one great thing about all of this is, that this is a really good problem to have. To actually have to rank 200 plus players for a local event is a good sign for foosball in Arizona. I look forward to continuing this debate on the board or in person as I only want to grow our sport in our state. I also think it is great to have some controversy and contention on this board. It has gotten very boring and vanilla ever since you and Steve stopped posting |

Hmmm... I was tempted not to respond to this at all, but there are a couple of items that I'll address. I guess someone is sucking on some sour grapes for getting dropped twice by Ricky and I last week. Hey shit happens, deal with it Bob has beaten me in singles two weeks in a row and you don't see me bitching about him being mis-ranked and declaring him and expert now. Bryan you have been playing great the past several months and have earned your rank. Honestly I would like to think of my self on that level but I'm just not there, close but no cigar. I don't have the consistency in my game to hang with you, Nick, Pat, and the other Pro's week in and week out and the results bear that out. Do I get you guys every once in a while sure, but more often than not I don't. Ricky has amazing talent and we seem to make a good team, but he has also taken his lumps and does not have the consistency or the points to even be considered a pro yet. He is Chunderful though isn't he>? LOL!!! By the way I plan on winning both expert and pro divisions.
Bob as I mentioned in the first post we do have points from netfoos, local tournaments via billy's scoring system -both of which are ELO based, as well as league rankings. I will make the spreadsheets available to anyone who wants them, however the points don't exactly match up as they are from different environments.....netfoos is strictly from events at Dukes and Cactus Moon - Billy's ELO points are from all tournaments reported here at all three locations from the last 7 months or so, and league is from league.
I am glad to have the points discussion anytime, but inform yourself first. Go online and check results here and at netfoos so we can have an informed discussion. If anyone thinks they can do a better job of promoting and putting together events that support all the foosers by all means do so and come up with your own ranking system. The little money I make off of this is no where near the time and effort that Billy, myself and several others put into this to keep it going. For the most part I am pretty laid back about all of this and do it for the love of the game, but to infer that I am stacking the deck somehow to give me an unfair advantage is complete BS. Anyone who knows me knows that I really don't like to put on these major events. It is massive work on my end and anyone who has helped out or ran a large event knows this. Ok I have said my peace so.......
- If you want the points let me know and I'll get them to you.
