Foosers we are getting some out of town interest in this event. Rhett and Randy from Tucson are committed and maybe some others as well. The BYP players pay 15 dollar entry fee and are seeded. The DYP players only pay 7 dollar entry and are not seeded. The highest placing DYP team gets 2 additional bonus points for the Summer Points Race.
If you plan on attending this tournament please let me know. If we have big numbers we can add an additional T-3000 and start the tournament a bit earlier in order to ensure we finish on time.

Foosers
I decided to start our own net foos account for our local tournaments. Net foos keeps stats and complete charts on our tournaments. I have entered about 7 or 8 tournies so far. I will do my best to keep it up to date. Here is the link...
http://www.netfoos.com/account/1261/account_home.html
I would also like to use these results to update local points. Bill or Dan if you have the method and the DB for our local points please let me know and I will update it with our results.

I am using our tournament results combined with the ELO ranking system in netfoos to calculate local points and rankings for players. The list below only has data from about 15 tournaments. Bill, DAn, Rhett, or John If you have other brackets that you can send me I will add them to the database so we can get a true representation of local points.
Points B, Nick 1196 H, Pat 1079 S, Don 1063 C, Brad 984 W, Mark 984 S, Randy 974 H, Rhett 974 O, Kenny 958 B, Eric 953 S, Jeff 941 S, Doug 932 H, Jeff 925 N, Casey 902 P, David 900 S, JB 900 Husband, Tom 900 W, Tanner 900 M, Dan 900 Meyer, Mike 900 D, Mark 891 M, Derek 891 S, Joe 888 F, Reno 886 M, Tony 878 T, TJ 876 B, Tony 867 g, rich 867 C, Gary 866 V, Johnny 863 Miller, Mike 862 L, Mike 861 W, Jeremy 856 S, Chris 851 F, Jimi 849 U, Sam 843 C, Mia 840 R, Noel 814 F, Dave 814 L, Rich 774 Y, Scott 766 M, Adrianne 754 edited by chambie on 7/31/2011 |

Local Points
chambie
|
Foosers - I would like to hear from you regarding a local points ranking system. Trying to rate players is difficult at best, and without some type of system is nearly impossible. Currently the only system available to me is the ELO system that is a part of the netfoos website. The ELO system is the system used to rate chess players, and has been modified a bit to rank foosball players in the netfoos system. The quick and dirty on how it works is that players get points based on match results in tournaments. The amount of points are determined based on the quality of opposition you face. For example if a low ranked player will be highly rewarded for defeating a high ranked player. On the same token a high ranked player will only be given a few points for defeating a low ranked player. Two evenly ranked players would receive about the same point award or deduction depending on the out come of their match.
The system is a tried and true rankings system and has been used in chess for years. I am wanting to use the system to rank our local players. There are some events where we seed players and use rankings to place players in groups and my judgement should never be the criteria for how someone is ranked. The current list of points I just posted is based on 15 or so tournaments that I have entered in the netfoos system. I started everyone at 900 points and let the results of each match determine our points and rankings.
I have several questions that I want to hear the local player base chime in on before I move forward with any changes to the data or system...remember my goal for the system is to be able to rank local players accurately at our tournaments!
- Should I include past tournaments on these results? If so how far back should I go?
- Should I have used Dan's points as a starting point for our system? He had been compiling data for several years from both Tucson and Phx tournaments for his rankings?
- Should I use the national touring points as a starting point for our system? Consider that most of our players have not toured in some time and most were set at 900 pts during the reset?
- Should I consider posting our local events to the national points system? Only events that seed players and are played in proper divisions would qualify, for us that means any future larger tournaments would be considered.
If any of my statements are incorrect or you have other opinions and/or ideas please post them here. Lets try to keep this debate civilized and productive, as I know this can be a touchy subject.
I appreciate your attention to this matter, and thanks so much for supporting Arizona Foosball.
Respectfully, Brad Chamberlain edited by chambie on 7/31/2011 |
