I'll talk with Jeremy and see what we can do. To be honest, though, Scott: I can't just ban you because you want it or need it - you have to earn it. No favoritism. |

League 5 Bar Rule
adminAdministrator
|
The "5 Bar War" game is new, so this season was sort of a "trial run" to see how it went. We were aware from the beginning of the potential for it to take some time, though we didn't know if would be a problem in actual practice.
Note, however, that there are some good arguments for the option to remove points:
1) without the option, the game typically is too short. 2) with the game placed where it is (near the end of the 2nd round) it adds a nice dynamic to the match, by allowing a team to try to make up some points if they know they will need them to win. 3) the game itself has quite a bit of interesting strategy with this option in it.
For 2/3 of the season, in practice, we've heard favorable feedback on the game, including the scoring options, and these opinions were nearly unanimous. Only in the last few weeks has the issue of some games running too long came up (probably because only recently have the players really figured out that this is a way to gain points).
So it's a matter of weighing the pros against the cons. (E.g., if a long-running game is a rarity, then it may be fine as is [and even appreciated]. If it happens too often, then clearly it should be curtailed.)
After a complete season's observation, it seems that this should probably be addressed; in the off-season we will consider it and likely make changes. The league coordinators have already discussed possible solutions. Of course, simply removing the scoring option is a possibility (but as mentioned above, the strategies available are generally desirable; it is the possibility of "overplay" that is the real issue). There are many ways to limit this action that would be easy enough "solutions", but they tend to add complexity that, in practice, can present other problems (e.g., giving each player only 3 chances to deduct a opponent's point can easily lead to situations with players arguing over how many they've used already).
Presently, we must finish playoffs, etc., and complete the season at hand, so we'll resolve this issue in the off-season. For the moment, all league players should feel free to offer suggestions either here or in person. But I felt it best to present the items above so that you can keep them in mind when making suggestions. The best answer should also be a simple one edited by admin on 4/27/2012 |

Interim League Begins 7pm Wednesday, May 16 at Main St. Billiards, Mesa
Post season blues? With the 2012 Winter League behind us, it is natural to be left with that lonely, hollow feeling of wondering how or where to get your next foosball league fix. But you will be pleased to know that some cool things are about to begin!
2012 Interim League : This is an informal league event intended to provide action in between official league seasons, foster player communication and comradery, and introduce new players to the league (there are also cash prizes to play for!). The 2011 Interim League was very popular, with a regular 20 or more players each week! Check out the "Leagues" section (on left menu) for more details...
2012 Summer League : Sign-ups will begin shortly.
So, as you can see, the AZ Foosball League is far from quiet! We look forward to seeing you over the tables very soon! |

2012 Interim League Final Event

|
2012 Interim League Final Event is this Wednesday, August 1st at Cactus Moon in Mesa! ______________________________________________________________
While it is true that all good things must come to an end, it also means that even better things will take their place! We have reached the final installment of the 2012 Interim League, and we plan to make it a great one! The grand finale will feature TWO events: Handicapped Draw - this is the event normally featured at the Interim League (no surprises here) 1 on 1 Battle - this is a singles event, but AZ FOOSBALL LEAGUE STYLE! At the start of each match, a coin will be tossed and the winner will be able to call any league 1 on 1 style game to be played for that match. (E.g., if you win the coin toss, you may choose to say "As I clearly tormented you all season long with my 3 bar, I hereby declare that we shall settle this match in the Forward Shootout style.") Both events are scheduled to begin at the regular 7:00 pm start time. Due to time constraints, 1 on 1 will be played as a single game to 7 in both the winner's and loser's brackets, including the final. Also note that if you are in the running for one of the League Interim overall prizes, you can collect two separate event entries and collect points in both on this same day! |
