better behavior = better foos

Hello fellow foosers,

As many of you are aware we had some issues at the foos club last Saturday June 15th regarding the format of the tournament, and player behavior. I have spent the better part of this week on the phone talking and texting many of the people who were there trying to get an understanding of what transpired. The conclusion that I have reached is that as the Tournament Director the buck stops with me and I take full responsibility for what transpired. With that said I put this message together to try to inject some rules and structure to events moving forward and want to start out by apologizing to the following individuals...

Mike Carey - Mike I am truly sorry for putting you in the situation of running an event for me and not providing a framework in which to work. Because of this some poor, but well intended, decisions were made that lead to many foosers being upset. The foos crowd can be an unruly group and when they smell blood in the water they can tear a TD to shreds. To avoid this in the future I will be putting some hard and fast rules in place regarding how my promotions are run to remove any unintended ambiguity which can be taken advantage of. I thank you for stepping up and volunteering to do a task the most players just will not do.

Ash - Ash I am sorry for not fully empowering Mike and working out with the two of you how the tournament should go down. As the club owner you attempted to make things better by making promises to several people you could not ultimately keep. By not properly preparing you and Mike I left you exposed to the piranha to be quickly devoured. Being an experienced TD it is easy to forget how long it takes to get everyone's respect, and the many little things that we do to keep tournaments running smoothly that I took for granted. I promise to not leave you in that situation again. You have a hard enough time just running the club and I for one am very grateful for your efforts.

Jim Dickson, Scott Young, and anyone else that did not play in the tournament due to the format change. I apologize for the inconvenience and will give you two free entries to the next two regular club events you come to. Just please do your best to let me know when you are coming so I can plan accordingly. You are always welcome at my events and I feel terrible that I allowed things to go down this way.

After speaking at length with many people Ash and I have decided upon the following...
Club Owner and Tournament Director

As this a unique situation in our history the roles and responsibilities of both the Club Owner and the Tournament Director need to be well defined. Just as with running the tournament in a bar the Tournament Director has final and full say over all tournament events. The Club Owner, just like a bar owner, will have no authority with regards to tournaments and the rules that govern them. The Club Owner will have final and full authority with all that transpires outside the tournament activities. The Club Owner will dictate and make all the rules for use of the facility and will have final say on who may reside on the premises. If a player's behavior during the tournament becomes so unruly that it must be addressed, both the TD and the Club Owner can assert authority to rectify the situation.

TD Expectations

Brad Chamberlain is the event director, all questions with regards to the tournaments at the club are to be directed to Brad. If Brad is not present the guest TD will be in charge and make all decisions regarding the event with the following exception. Only Brad may make changes to the event format. The official event schedule for the club resides in the coming events section of the Arizonafoosball.com website. If the event is to change form its posted format it must be made by 10 AM on the Wednesday prior to the event, and can only be done by Brad. The change must be made on Arizonafoosball.com and a text must be sent by Arizonafoosball.com to the foosball community. Neither the Club Owner nor the Guest TD have the right to change the format. Players present on that evening will not attempt to sway that decision or make changes to the event.

Guest TD’s can be hard to find and Brad will do his best to let the community know when he is unable to attend and who the guest TD is. Please treat the guest TD’s with respect as they have a difficult job, don’t be part of the problem, be the solution.
Player Expectations

With regards to disagreements regarding rules during tournament play the following is the proper way in which to handle it.

  • If you know you are going to have issues with the person you are playing with call ref to the table prior to the match starting.
  • If a ref is not available please attempt to record the match, I will be attempting to acquire some older phones and camcorders to record matches that will be available for use. If there is a disagreement the match will be stopped and a third party will come over to watch a replay of the alleged infraction, listen to the two opposing viewpoints, and will make a call. Please refer to the newest ISTF rulebook for clarification of rules and regulations.
  • Calls made by officials or the individuals asked to review video will be binding and final. No arguing with officials will be tolerated and could result in forfeiture of the match.
  • If neither a ref or a recording device is available players will be expected to officiate their own matches. If an argument breaks out that is deemed disruptive to the surrounding matches or becomes disrespectful the TD will halt all play on all tables and issue a warning to the offending table/players. If the argument continues to be a distraction or resumes again later in the match both teams may be disqualified from the event. If the behavior continues after the event the club owner has the right to remove the offending individuals from the premises.

Players will show up on time and register to events at least 15 minutes prior to the event starting. Expectations can be made for traffic difficulty etc… as long as they contact the TD at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start of the event. However habitual offenders will be warned and not granted entry into the event.

Players will pay attention to the tournament bracket and will report to their matches in a timely manner. If you are constantly delaying matches because you are not in the room when your match is called you will be warned. Future infractions may lead to recalls and disqualifications. Please be respectful of everyone's time.
Club Owner

Ash is the Club Owner. He is in charge and has final say on all club activities and behavior regarding all club members, no fights nor disparaging remarks to any persons in attendance will be tolerated. Personal insults directed at people that degrade and disrespect the individual will not be tolerated and the offending individual will be asked to leave, forfeit their entry fees and remaining matches and be suspended from all club activities for 30 days. If after the suspension the individual persists in the inappropriate behavior they may be asked to leave the club permanently.

Final Thoughts

I want to thank anyone that took the time to speak with me this week. We have an amazing opportunity to have a fantastic foosball scene here in Arizona. We have an amazing group of people to play foosball with, and I am privileged to call many of you my friends. If we all just step back a bit and take a little bit of time to understand and listen to one another I am sure we can solve all of our issues and move past the petty fights and bickering that have destroyed foosball scenes all over the country. We have all seen it happen and I personally do not want a repeat of history here.

I finally ask that if you have any concerns regarding this message please contact me directly so we can discuss it. Please keep all comments on this thread positive and remember... it is not about what foosball can do for you, but what can you do for foosball. ( I know it's corny but I believe it!!!)

Respectfully,

Brad

Foosers!!

Badger Promotions (AKA Brad and Jesse) are happy to announce a new promotion - Bucky's Big Draw, (BBD)

Over the next 4 months we will be donating 2$ per player, per event to the BBD. In order to be eligible for the BBD you must play in 40% of the matches at Boulders over the next 4 months. All monies collected in this manner will be added to the prize pot in the BBD. Entries for the BBD will be listed below for all the qualified individuals, and tables will be put on free play for the event.

Each week we will post the list of players from our events and the percentage of events they have participated in, as well as the running total of the weekly donations!

Our goal is to have as many teams as possible for the big event but also encourage attendance for the weekly events, so the more you play the less you pay! With that said we will use the following prorated entry structure for the BBD.

90% and greater - Free Entry!!!

89% - 80% - 5 dollar entry fee
79% - 70 % - 10 dollar entry fee
69% - 60% - 15 dollar entry fee
59% - 50% - 20 dollar entry fee
49% - 45 % - 25 dollar entry fee
44% - 40% - 30 dollar entry fee

No one under 40% attendance will be allowed entry into the tournament!

As a bonus we will donate 3$ per player, instead of $2, if the following conditions are met...
  • We have 12 or more teams any given Friday!
  • On BYP nights you and your partner wear matching uniforms. same color schemes, sports teams, jerseys, etc
If you have any questions make sure to contact either Brad or Jesse!

PHX Foos Club issues :Mr.Brad Chamby

chambie
chambie
Ash -

This will be my only public reply to this message, if you or anyone else wants to talk with me about this issue please let me know and I will gladly do so but not on a public forum.

"I clearly noticed as soon as “Boulders in Broadway “Came up in the Picture Mr.Brad Chamberland as a TD for the club who is been Trusted for 7 months to get this Club plans going for our Foosball Community just decided in the spot to turned his Back to the Entire Club Idea, plans and took his Tournado table from the Club to "Boulders in Broadway"in order to team up with Jesse on Friday nights Tournament."

Ash I was not trusted to run things, you interfered with the events from the start, you started incendiary public discussions, changed an event that caused a disaster, then decided to run other events that I told you I did not want to run and then brought in Jim Dickson to run them.

"Brad It’s respectful and it’s understandable the way you Support Foosball and do what ever you think it will benefits you personally but you had a "big responsibility for your Foosball community (not Me as the Club owner)". Specially you personally asked me multiple times to" trust you with your plans for the Club" and I Trusted you and gave you Full power to do whatever you want in order to get Club plans to go as you planned and I never try to stop you from doing anything until you decided to split your way."

You did not give me full power, as you constantly forced discussions that needed to be private, into the public eye, just like this one, and you constantly wanted to make change, even when you were told what would happen. If you did trust me there would not be the massive group tests and telegram posts to the contrary. Ash Please do not talk to me about responsibility to the foosball community, you started a club and ran it for two months. I have ran weekly events for over 10 years and ran the last 6 big events we have had in this state. I think that I have done my share. Running an event is difficult, welcome to the world of promoting. I never blamed my failures on other people or the community. I always treated it as a business and tried to create a product that the community asked for. If people did not like my promotions I would try something different. I went through some very difficult times when first starting, you need to weather the storm.

"#1-Brad what was you Main Reasons to turn your back to The Club?
Please Remember This is not me asking you it’s Foosers asking me what’s up with all those things Brad and ASH been talking about the big club plans and I have to give answers to people.
*This is my question from you personally as a Friend.

I don't see other foosers asking me, just you. If they have a question for me please send them my way. Also please explain to me how I have turned my back? Who has supported you more than I have? I told you from the beginning how I wanted to run things, but you did not like the way things were going and wanted to make changes, I told you that I did not support those changes and if you wanted to do them you would have to run it. You then brought in Jim Dickson to run it, and I was there to help! What did you think I was going to do? If I am not running events and make decisions I will not be a part of it, and I told you that. I told you that I run the event and you run the place, you constantly wanted to interfere with the event and dealing with that , in my opinion got very old very fast.
,
#2-no matter what Going Forward
Are you going to be there in Weekly Club Tournament or you just going to stick on Supporting Friday nights and Use that as an excuse to only night out ?
(We all know Jesse is a tournament director and he can handle Friday nights on his own).

Lets make this clear, no I am not going to be your tournament director, but that is you doing. You changed the events, you changed what we do with the table fees, these are changes you wanted to make that I did not agree with and I told you that at the time. I won't respond to your "excuse" portion of your question. What I do with my time is my business, but if you want me to continue coming out, which I would like to do, this is not the way to do it!

#3- are we ever going to respect each other’s plans for Foosball Getting better in AZ or you going to still convince people in website Forums to join Friday nights only and Bring that negativity about Foosers just supporting what you doing in Boulders ?

When did I attempt to convince people in public, or private, for that matter to not go to your event? People can choose where they want to go and play when they want to play. You knew for months that we were looking for a new Friday night place to replace Dukes, we discussed about the possibility of it being your place, but Jesse decided to keep the night and you respected that. You knew we were looking for a place on the east side as it is more convenient to the foosers on that side of town. When you started this venture I was like you I really thought it was going to be great and put tons of effort into it. However your place does have some problems that you need to determine how you are going to over come them. The location is not the nicest neighborhood, there is a food issue, and there is the issue that people want to go to a bar and play. I did my best to overcome these issues, and convince others as well, however after two months it became apparent that they were not going away. You are the promoter you can do what ever you want to try to attract people to come and play at your place, but crying foul on a public forum because things did not go as you planed is not cool in my opinion.

I do have a Meeting with possibly a Beer company who wants us to Promote their Products in Huge Pool Parties and sponsor the club for Hanging their Banners in the club.I just want to let everyone knows That I m working on getting sponsorship for Foosball in AZ but one thing we definitely need is supporting the Club and stick with our plans.

Good for you, as I told you I thought this was a cool idea from the beginning and support it 100%. So what should we do Ash, drop Boulders? Should I bail on Jesse and come back and work for you? What is in it for me at the end of the day? I did not earn a dime, gave you all the table fees, brought in computers and Wifi to support the club? Tell me what else could I have done? The key word in your sentence is "our plans". Right now your club is about your plans, you need to think about the customer first and create a product and a promotion that is both sustainable for you and best for the foosers.

I still plan on coming out to the club when I can but it is almost a 50 minute drive for me. Boulders is much closer and fits into my personal schedule much better. I'm truly sorry that you feel that I bailed on you Ash, I really do, but you need to take a look in the mirror and look at your role in all of this, sure you can blame me if it makes you feel better but there is plenty of blame to go around.

Out of respect and friendship I responded to this in public, however if you throw me under the bus on a public forum again you will be risking both my respect and friendship.

To the rest of you, if you have any questions for me you most likely have my number, please give me a call or send me a text.

Respectfully,

Brad

Foosers -

As many of you know we are always trying to figure out ways to rate the players. One of the more tried and true systems is known as the ELO system. Back in the Cactus Moon days I used Netfoos to track player results and run events. I still have the data from over 100 events in that system. Well I have decided to use Netfoos again at Boulders, and one of the bonuses of using the software is that it has a very decent ELO system built into it.

Now this list is going to seem off to many of you but it is just a baseline list. It is based off all of the Cactus Moon events that are in the system and the first 4 events that we have run at Boulders. As you play, the system is designed to adjust to your results very quickly. I am quite sure a few players will be moving up the ranks in a hurry, as some of you have gotten much better since the Cactus Moon days.

I ran a list today and will be posting it here. I plan on updating it each month, but remember it only has the events from Boulders in it. We can't use loft results since that is a handicapped system and would skew the results. Ash I can use the results from your events but you need to send me pictures of completed brackets so I can enter each match.

Bob - it is basically a ranking system, so the points really don't mean that much right now. After a couple of months we will start assigning ranks to the point ranges. For example we may say the following....

1400 and above = Pro
1399 - 1200 = expert

I hope to collect a bigger sample set before I do the first ratings. The reason for doing this is to have a good accurate ratings system for when we do the bigger events.

Hope that helps.
