League Team Dubliners announcement

Would everybody help me out here? I can't seem to get a hold of one of my league team partners. I have yet to get a response from my texts or phone calls.
I want to let Bob Duncan know that he is no longer a team member of the Dubliners. I am forced to replace him.
I know this is communication technique is unprecedented but I have never been sure that my texts or calls have gotten through to Bob.
That said, the Dubliners: Casey Nelson and Tom Husband, need a third teammate. Please let me know if you are interested. My contact info is on the league page.

Monday night tourney in Cave Creek

Open invitation to the weekly tourney at the Smokehouse in Cave Creek.
Monday night. 7pm DYP
This monday Casey Nelson (me) is the tourney director.
this is a unique tourney. the house rules continue to be:
$5 entry
open table (owner provides quarters)
All winnings used to buy the participants a round. (no-lose situation for beginner players)
house rules (liberal but tolerable)
one game to 5
double elimination
semi-enclosed patio where smoking is allowed
great food
only 20 minutes north of The Loft Again off of Cave Creek Rd.
Come out and have some fun

I'm pretty sure that's a Rene Pierre. circa 1970's
I remember playing on these quite a bit in Lawrence Kansas while attending school. They have a glass top, really hard, marble-like foosballs that rocketed about the table when struck. The rectangular feet were pretty clumsy and the men are really light-weight. Those handles would almost fit into the palm of my hand. The spring bumpers made a loud clang and did not compress very well. I never saw one shatter.
I had a 3/4 pull shot that frightened the crap out of more frat boys than I can count. Me and the 29-year-old sophomore with huge forearms (from years of lifting those liter-sized glass beer mugs) and a wild look in his eyes that said "you mess with my goalie and I'll kill youi" (I was his goalie). We won a lot of beer, we did. |

I agree. I feel that local rankings should be equitable to allow the truly "expert" level players have a chance with their own skill-level peers. Johny, Coop, Bork, Pat, TJ, Joe, Cowboy, JB, Billy, Brian Saulke, Jim Sherman should all be in a higher category. |

I just got back from a trip to Flag and I discovered a T-3000 at a cafe/bar named Altitudes. They have had it since September 12, 2014. The owner of the bar told me he used to play and loves foos so now that he has just had the place expanded there is a bigger stage and room for the T3000. It has no light but I was sure to tell him about fooslight.com. He said he will be lighting it soon.
Then I found a table in a new club at 8 N Leroux St. (right on rt 66). It used to be called the Speakeasy. they have a T-2000 table. It had a dim light but late at night it should be fine. Bring your own silicone and be prepared to wipe it down. Nobody was playing but I'm sure when the older people (like me) leave at about 10pm, the college crowd will pop by and play.
I found another table at the Green Room but it is a completely worn out Tournament Soccer brown top and should be avoided IMHO. |

I agree with @Quarter. If an X happens, there should be an opportunity for a player to back out of the event.
I am not sure how the X is determined right now. Is X always the last to sign up? Or do we determine the X upon the draw: last name/number drawn is the X?
I suppose the last to sign up/show up could be confusing because we allow players to be included then wait for them to arrive, a policy that I can indeed appreciate and has worked out pretty well. |

Sarcasm alert! I doubt that anyone likes waiting on someone.
Nope, no sarcasm on this. I acquiesce to the idea that a tourney may start late. I mention this because players that call Billy and say they will be there, do eventually arrive. I agree that the more players, the better. |

I'm not sure if you who are reading this are aware of my comments regarding how rules have been treated in the 10 or so years of league play. If not, here's a short report: When rules go awry, I complain.

Not going to complain today. I do however want to comment on some rules treatments I have experienced in this season's leagues.
This season, I have run into teams that desperately hold all pro-tournament rules in play during each league game. On the contrary, I have run into teams that reject all rules and have threatened me when I attempt to call them by any rule. I can't tell you how frustrating this has been especially since this season I am in the position of not only playing, but mentoring.
The rules obsessions; strict or loose, can be really confusing and I find myself dissecting and explaining how people use rules to their advantage and subsequently how we, as a team, should not. I feel taking advantage of rules for ones own personal gain is unethical. Also, this philosophy is contrary to the leagues' goal: get more players involved.
So here is my plea: If you break any rule, bust yourself and explain why. If we break a rule, and you feel like you need to call us on it, please be patient and explain it to us. For the remainder of this season, for my team, we will be giving you the benefit of a doubt. Perhaps going forward, we can all do this. |
